    Talking Meet the Kenpo Adicts

Hi my name is Joshua and I have been addicted to Kenpo for 3 years now.

    Ahem, moving on.

Everyone here should know me from Martial Talk. If you don't here’s a bit about myself and my training.

I'm currently 3rd Class brown in EPAK. My lineage to SGM Parker is linked through Steve La'bounty and 'Huk' Planas, my instructor (Mike Stevenson) trained under both for several years. In addition to Kenpo I am also in college going for my Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering.

I am looking forward to meeting the rest of you.

    -Josh-

    Edit-
PS "All Kenpo All the Time" Is a pretty accurate statement of my mind. Sadly Kenpo doesn't help when it comes to passing calculus tests.

Okay, I'll go next...My name is Robb and I have been training in Kempo for almost 2 years now. I am at the rank of orange belt in the Kosho Ryu "style" (for lack of a better word)....
I study under Shihan Brent Crisci in Augusta, Maine...
Shihan has a lineage that is very unique in my opinion, in that, his first Kosho Ryu Kempo Karate instructors was a man named Robert Hoe. Hoe, Sensei, a Hawaiian native, was a direct student of Simon Eli (one of Mitoses original students and Blackbelts. Crisci received his 6th Degree Blackbelt from Hoe in 1999 after 16 years of study with him. He then went on and trained with Fred Villari directly in the mid-eighties and from there went on to seek out Villari's instructor ,Grandmaster Nick Cerio. Mr. Cerio appointed him to the Board of Directors for Nick Cerios International Martial Arts Association and awarded him a 5th degree blackbelt in American Kenpo. Later, he was recognized by Thomas Barro Mitose, the son the late Grandmaster James Mitose, as a Kosho Ryu Black Belt. And finally, he sought out the last student of the late grandmaster, Bruce Juchnik. Juchnik, Sensei appointed him as a Regional Director of the Sei Kosho Shorie Kai International Society and awarded him his Yudansha in the direct line of Kosho Shorie Ryu under the Mitose lineage. So, with that said, and even though the system I study is considered to be a style (theres that word again) of its own, I feel I get some very top notch training, influenced by various styles of Kempo, and that certainly cannot be a bad thing.
I am in my 30's and have 2 children, a daughter who is 18 and a 14 y.o. boy who has duchennes, muscular dystrophy and has been in a wheel chair for two years now...before that though, both children had earned orange belts in Shotokan Karate.
Anyways, sorry to ramble on so long, and I cannot wait to get to know more of you all.

My name's Dave, and I'm a kenpo addict. Have been in and out of kenpo for many years (more in than out), and enjoy the heck outta our bizarre choice of hobbies.

Getting older, I'm leaning more towards the technical aspects of the art, hoping (possibly against hope) that there will be young bucks to carry on the head-knocking traditions in kenpo.

Somebody should have spelled "addicts" correctly.

    Regards,

    D.

I'm Scott. I trained in EPAK from 88-90 in Montana, moved, couldn't find a school for 15 years (forced to train in TKD - but made the best of it), recently found a school in Texas, EPAK/TRA-CO, and hold rank of Blue Belt.

Look forward to exchanging ideas on the art and getting back on track!

Good to see everyone here. It figures that my first post here had terrible misspellings. Microsoft Word has ruined me.

Great Forum Idea. Back on Martial Talk some of you will know me as Clapping_Tiger. At least I got on this board quick enough that I could use my name. I have been studying Kenpo for 5 years now, and have a boxing background.

Hi folks, MJ here! I'm definitely addicted to Kenpo! I've been studying for 5 and a half years now. I'm interested in the experience and different ideas that the senior instructors bring to this art, so this forum is set up perfectly - I think it's marked for success!

Red face Re: Meet the Kenpo Adicts

I am so ashamed that I misspelled addicts. Perhaps this shows I am addicted to Microsoft Word's spell check and auto-correct.
