    Thank you for the welcome...
Our system as far as I know is unique to the San Francisco Bay Area. Mr. Rod Martin opened several schools here in the early to mid 1960's. I believe there are only two or maybe three schools left teaching this Kenpo system. The school I attend in Livermore, CA, the Stanford University Kenpo Club and perhaps one other school in Mountain View but I am not sure of that. From what I have been able to gather Mr. Martin trained with the Tracy's before some sort of falling out with them.
From what I understand our system is very similar to the Tracy system up through Brown and from Brown and Black it is more like Parker. I do know all our techniques have different names and are slightly different from both other systems. To give an example I saw in the Technique of the Month section a description of Lone Kimono. We have a similar technique for a straight across right shoulder grab which is called Sharpening the Blade. The primary difference appears to me to be that once we trap the grabbing hand we strike behind the elbow with more of an inward block type motion. I have virtually no knowledge of the other two systems so its hard for me to know what the differences in our systems really are.
I am hoping to learn more about the Parker system by reading the board.

    Welcome.

Look for the similarities. Doesn't matter what the technique is called.

Welcome, neighbor! I wasn't aware of a Kenpo school in Livermore, other than Terry Kane's dojo.

    I'm at Richard Lee's East-West in Alamo.

jdinca - Whats up Alamo! I have heard alot about your school. Our school in Livermore is on the main drag (First Street), been there since 1964.
I did not know you guys did Kenpo over there. I will have to stop by one of these days...

    Hopefully good stuff.

Our system is based in Tracy kenpo but it's been customized enough that we pretty much consider ourselves a kung fu school.

Drop in anytime! I'll do the same.
