I remember showing John his basic Kempo blocks. We called the style started by Mike Sanders Bujin Kempo not Kenpo by the way. John went on to become the head bouncer at the Poison Apple nightclub in Sterling. After the death of Mike Sander's in 1979 John found a different instructor and went of to form his own Kempo school.

I'm not aware of any formal Kempo clubs in Milledgeville other than a possible group taught by one of our Bujin Kempo brother's named Ed Eubanks. I am currectly trying to contact Ed as we are experiencing a revival of sorts of the old club. It has been almost 30 years since Mike has died and we are still inspired by his spirit.

Who might you be and how did you find out about us?
I was born in 76, but I grew up with John Buyers. He was a good friend of our family.

I practiced with two gentleman one being Brian, he retired a few years ago from being a Corrections officer at the Dixon prison. He along with Mike Maddux had a school in Sterling/Rock Falls for awhile. Later on Mike opened a school in Dixon focusing on Muay Thai and Kickboxing. Both school are no longer in operation.

There were also some classes at the YMCA, although I believe they called the system another name. Kempo Jujitsu or something. I participated in several classes but ended up with Brian and his school. Brian explained the history and we also added back in alot of Ju-jitsu. As time went on they moved closer to the Parker System and at one point quite a bit in Saviano's White Tiger Kenpo.
I have talked online with one of Saviano's black belts and they remembered Brian coming to train with them.

I never could track down the teachers at the YMCA again.

Ed opened a school and teaches the Tracy System basically. He does let you know exactly up front his background witch I really appreciated. I practiced there when I could. Milledgeville is a little country town as you probably know. He is still there and I told him I would stop back in next time in town. Last time I was there we went through a photo album...it was awesome to see all those old pics. I saw people I knew but had no idea everyone was connected through Mr. Sanders.

I put flowers on Mike's stone when I go back home. I took some great photos of it last winter. I actually had the image on the stone put on a posterboard.

Please call me, I would love to talk more.
    Justin

It was great to find some of the people involved with Bujin Kempo and I can't wait to learn more! I really want to get everything down on paper and work something up.

I realize this is a very old thread, but thought I'd reply nonetheless. John Buyers was my dad. Happy to answer any questions about him.
