My students are required to perform all the techniques required for 3rd Brown, Long form 3, Blocking Set 2, a personal form containing all 10 master key techniques, a sai form, and an assortment of techniques, forms and sets from previous belts.

Thanks you guys. I have been in the review and retest process. It has actually been alot of fun. Things are clearer and make more sense than
they did the first time through. It's remembering the kata's.... I did not start
writing them down until blue belt. But they are coming back fast.

Forms, sets, techniques on a partner (slowly first, then at street speed), continuous sparring with GOOD contact, and a personal form.

Ed Parker never made Short Form 4 a requirement in his system.

Also, if you don't mind me asking, why those specific 8 techniques that you mentioned?

I know that I worked on my 3rd brown techs for 6months and now I just finished reviewing yellow and orange and will actually test it again next week with short 1 or sheilds kata. Then review purple for a month so on while keeping my 3rd brown techs and katas fresh. Then I have no idea what my 3rd brown test will consist of. It's couple of months down the road.

A Personal Form is where the student has to create a form by using a certain criteria. At Blue Belt in my school the student does a form with 7 defenses against Punches, at 3rd Brown it is a personal form using the 10 Master Key techniques.

3rd Brown Belt is an exciting moment in Kenpo Karate. The student is now at the threshold of being a serious Kenpo student - the "goal" is clear Black Belt is not a fantasy...

In my club, a Brown Belt candidate must be able to do all techniques up to Brown Belt. The student must demonstrate a mature grasp of Kenpo theory and execution. The student must be able to explain why techniques are structured so...

The student must be able to show basic elements of Warrior Spirit via self defense techniques and sparring. The testing period includes my satisfaction that the student has matured enough to obtain Brown.

All the techniques up to that point, and forms. Placing more or more precise emphasis placed on the forms, and grasp of practical application in a realistic venue.

For my third brown test, I was prepared to do all katas up through long 3 (I think), but maybe form 4. (Can't remember)

I needed to be prepared to do any or all of the techniques up through third brown (we're on the 24 system) on a partner. And sparring.

    Staff set too, I believe.

I had to be prepared to do them all, but it was up to my instructor, in the moment, which ones and how many. But, if you prepare to do all of them, then it doesn't matter which ones or how many.
