Question Clarification about Tracy's Kenpo required, please.

    Hi everyone,

I'm new to Kenpo, having recently started training with a teacher of the Tracy's curriculum. Since I've been researching Tracy's Kenpo online, however, I've noticed that the rank granted by my instructor is from Mark Tracy, who, according to the Tracy's Kenpo Karate International Studios of Self Defence (TKKISSD) website, is no longer associated with TKKISSD. I'm quite confused about this situation and about how, if at all, it will impact my training or the legitimacy of my rank. Any help understanding these issues would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

It should not matter at all. Mark TRacy is Al’s son and he trained legitimately in his father’s method. Al passed away a couple years ago or so. When the leader of a large martial arts organization dies, it is common that some people will split away to create their own organization. Not everyone decides to stay together with the original organization. Some people become completely independent with no affiliations to any organizations.

There is nothing wrong with that. As long as you are training with someone who himself received quality training, you should be fine. Don’t worry about which organization is “more” legitimate. That is a meaningless distinction in many cases, and certainly should not be an issue in the case that you are describing.

    enjoy your training.

Like many styles, Tracy's has not been immune to internal politics once the founder dies.
Technically Mark Tracy is not associated by the brand anymore, but what does it matter. The only thing that matters is whether your instruction is good or not.
