    Default 30 000 Posts

Today, Oct 2nd 2006 KenpoTalk hit 30 000 post. In a little less than 20 full months we hit this milestone. The site has a goal of 38 000 posts by the end of 2006. That means we only needs an average of 90 posts a day to reach our goal. But I would personally like to see a majority of the posts each day to be of substance.

Lets see if we can do this people.

So the 'this is my thread' is something you'd consider less substantial?

    LOL.

I hear ya'. Once I get started on the 5.0 stuff I'll be talking about it all the time.

While a fun little thread, I debated whether to move it to the Suporting Member's Lounge or the Humor area. I moved it to the Humor area since it gets a little funny at times.

90/day, and with substance! You don't want much, do you?

    Any way, good show, KT!

A majority with substance, ideally 80% or better.

I find we always break down a little towards the end of the month, and then when the new techniques, form and set roll out things pick up again.

    And you were worried!

Good job, everyone. And congrats to "th' crew" here at KT.

So, Rob, you gonna give us a breakdown on what percentage of our verbosity had substance and what was fluff? We'll give you a couple of days to go through and count 'em all up, if you need it.

Off the top of my head I would say teh site has about 40% of great technical information , 55% fluff, 5% behind the scenes and administrative. Not bad, but I would still prefer substance to anything else.

BTW Amy, have you gotten your 5.0 DVD's yet?

No, but it should be any day. The guy sending out said mine will go out first, the moment he gets them.

    I'll let everyone know.

    Lightbulb Re: 30 000 Posts

30,000 Post ! ...and only 397 of them are mine? I feel insignificant. I'll have to work harder.

    As to the substance debate?

Substance: that of which a thing consists; physical matter or material: form and substance.

Therefore..the "This is My Thread" thread contains a great deal of substance, if we look at the sheer mass of materiel and thought that has gone into it's construction.

On a serious note, to this debate ? Peeking in, to check on the metamophosis of that thread, and other admittedly light-hearted threads, often leads to discovering a more serious one. I believe it was Doc himself, who brought up the fact that SGM Parker, always had a dirty joke within easy reach. Why do you suppose that was? Why do you suppose, of all the tremendous contributions, and accomplishments of SGM Parker, Doc recalled that one? Because we all need to smile more. Humor breaks tension. Humor is a sign of higher thinking. When you've got a student who is working so hard, trying to understand something, that both you and he are getting frustrated...and you can take a step back and make them laugh, at themselves or you, or the world at large, it defuses the tension, often associated with working with higher ranks. It sometimes allows a new approach to the lesson. It also helps make the learning process more enjoyable. I imagine in high school, most of us had teachers who were all business and knew their materiel inside and out, but you failed to learn much from them, because you simply couldn't relate to them as human beings. Humor allows us to recognize both differences and similarities in one another. It helps to build a Community. (See up there at the top left hand corner of your screen? It clearly says that's what we are!) It often helps point the way to enlightenment. Even if it doesn't, then is it truly wrong, just to smile one more time during the course of a day? Does it really seriously jeopardise the sharing of knowledge that is being accomplished here? Or does it simply help the medicine go down? If people are laughing, smiling and enjoying themselves, they are likely to spend more time here. If they are spending more time here, they will expose themselves to the more serious, substantial topics. Sometimes, it's just a pleasant distraction, which when the air clears, opens the door for a different aspect of discussion. Sometimes it is a neccessary sesura (There's that word again!) a dramatic pause, which allows you to digest the more serious thought which proceeded it.

    Humor is good, m'kay?

    LOL.

Back in the day I got to sign more than a few teachers’ paddles after getting licks. I’m just glad my Kenpo instructor doesn’t have a paddle

Congratulations everyone on 30,000 lets see if we can hit 40,000 by Dec 31 2006
