    Default We've Moved....Welcome to Gondor!

On Monday, March 28th, 2005, at 2:35PM ET KenpoTalk moved from it's previous server to a new home.

    New server specs are:
    Dual Xeon 3.0 GHZ CPU's
    2 GB Ram
    Dual SATA 200GB harddrives
Running the latest release in Centos Linux.

Estimated downtime was 2-5 minutes while DNS rerouted.

The new server's name is Gondor, for the Tolkien fans.

    I'm all penguiny.

I like Centos. It's comparable to RedHat Enterprise, just without the large licence fees.

    http://centos.org has all the info.
I snagged the ISO's a while back, did some testing and found it pretty stable. New datacenter offered it, so.....I said, ok.

If you want to play around, Fedora's fine. If you want to run a production machine, it's not. (I don't care what they say.)

Red Hat has "end of lifed" all prior versions of RH Linux other than their Enterprise releases, so unless you are really confident on patching, I'd avoid it.

I've used Mandrake and Suse previously, and both were nice. Unfortunately, none of my providers support those, so I've moved to Centos, simply because it's a pretty good match with RHE (which they do offer).

    Bob,

This is my first post using centOS linux. So far it seems to be working great, still playing around with it, trying to get a feel for it.

    Thanks for the links Bob.
