Default MartialTalks sale, and the Future of KenpoTalk.

As some of you may be aware, late last night a deal was finalized in the sale of MartialTalk, and it's assets. (See here)

I just want to take a moment and reassure everyone here at KenpoTalk that KT was not part of that sale. KT will continue on as a separate site at this time.

However, with my new found wealth comes the juvenile desire to blow "heaping big wads of cash", and as I will be relocating to the beautiful nation of New Zealand and devoting myself to photographing the beautiful scenery there, some changes will be effected here.

I will be hiring a full time manager for KT to take my place. I have a candidate in mind, and once the MT check clears I will be negotiating for his return to the site. He must have found tranquility by now, so it should be a good match.

I'll also be bringing in another web developer to work on the look of the site. I'm rather tired of blue and grey, so we will be looking at a pink color scheme. I'm told pink is a very soothing color.

I'll be contacting my web-shark on monday, who will be working on the buyout and merger with kenponet, kenpospeak, kenpochat, kenpokavetch and kenposhmempo so as to form 1 gigantic kenpo site, to be called "whatchugonnadowhenthekenporunswildoveryou.com ". A little long yes, but it looked good on the tee shirt model so I'm sold on it.

Folks, it's been fun, but I have to hit the gym. I need to get my fanny in shape as I've got some detractors to turbo moon in 2 week. I wanna look gud!

I was trying to figure out at first who you got to pay you big bucks for a forum. If that's the way it works, I think I need to get into the forum business!

In all seriousness, I turned down an offer of $100,000 for MartialTalk last fall. Based on the estimates of some folks who do value sites, it's worth over $1 million. KenpoTalk's in the $75-150k range at the moment.

Regardless of the amounts in question, I wouldn't sell the sites to anyone I didn't think would care for them and their members.

$75 you say? And you didn't jump at it? Crazy.

Someone seriously offered you $100k for Martialtalk? Do you sell a lot of ad space there or something? Does it generate income? I'm curious. Pardon my ignorance. My forum doesn't generate any income. It's just there for the convenience of the members.

One formula for valuing a site is to take it's income for 12 months and double it. Another is to take it's average monthly visitor count for the past year, and multiply it by $38. MT gets over 100,000 visitors each month. KT does over 20,000 each month. KT's challenges are it's lower member:visitor ratio, and low revenue level at the moment. MT is currently one of the top 5 largest martial arts boards on the Internet. It's income level isn't where I'd like it, but it does pay for the dedicated server it's on each month and most of it's other expenses.
