    Default Possible Advertising Expansion

I am experimenting with a new ad system called Skim Links on 2 of my other communities. If it looks favorable on them, I will be adding it to KenpoTalk next (July).

The system works by scanning posts and adds a few links to affiliates where you can purchase services and products. KT gets a % of that revenue. It will also convert a couple of keywords into links. For example, if I mention I shoot with a Canon D50, that may become a link to where you can buy the camera.

I will have the system disabled for supporting members by default, and am considering allowing all registered members the ability to disable it as well. It will be active for lurkers.

Benefits for us include revenue increase, and some possible search engine increases.
    Negative is, more ad links.

But some sites have reported 20-30% increases in income, which might just make KT profitable, which is a good thing.

I'm mentioning it now as I don't like springing surprises of this level on y'all, and the floor is open for feedback.

If you're interested in helping support KT directly, please become a Supporting Member. You get some nice perks (bigger avatar, profile pic, less ads shown, bigger mail box), access to private forums. It's less than $2 a month. A LifeTime Membership is only $99. http://www.kenpotalk.com/forum/payments.php

    Thank you

Please make that hot linking something I can get rid of... I hate that. It drives me nuts and makes me not to want click on links anymore. So please, provide a supporting member level variant where this can be disabled.

It'll be disabled by default for Supporting Members. I try to minimize the ads you guys see.

Right now there are a few new Google ads visible to all. I'm testing and will be modifying settings over the next few days.

I think it should be visible to all non-Supporting Members. If we prefer to surf without the (minor) distraction, the Supporting membership is very affordable. The potential additional revenue helps keep KT a viable place for online sharing within the Kenpo community. I think that is a good thing.

I agree. love the site, we should be willing to support it, or put up with a few links here and there, 9or both.)

An opt out for supporting members works for me. This is a good site that I think we'd all like to keep going, and hopefully make Bob a little remodel money in the process.
Be careful what you say, some may take it the wrong way.

I'll most likely be doing a test run later today on KT, which if it looks good I'll continue over the weekend.

Test implementation started. All members currently can see it. I'll be adjusting and locking things down later.

    Default Possible Advertising Expansion

i dont think the regional subs get enough activity to warrant even more expansion to specified citites. just adding a city to the name of a thread should suffice.
