I wish them well and hope they get whatever it is they want, however in my opinion it is probably too little too late. It is my understanding that any copyright infringement must be addressed within three years of the first violation because of the statute of limitations. They should have gone after those people years ago.

Not really when you consider that Gene Simons owns the dollar sign on a money bag, and if you try using the dollar sign on a money bag EVER, you will get a cease and desist letter from you favorite fire breather.

I don't have an issue with it at all, if I did the issue would be mine. If my instructor decided to award Brad Pitt a 50th degree in order to gain market share in a thousand new markets, that's his business. If I chose not to accept that, that's my problem and I can take my business elsewhere.

I usually remind people, that if Mr. Parker wasn't in "business," they might not ever been exposed to Kenpo at all. The sword has two edges. Yo can't wield one, without the other.

This is true. And, Elvis was good for business.

    Here's a question, though.

Did anyone in kenpo-land know about this promotion to 9th before this auction?

We all know of the hundreds of discussions concerning the 7ths Mr. Parker promoted. I certainly was aware of Mr. Presley being promoted to, and wearing 8th. This 9th certificate surprised me. Was this known to the community (whatever that might have meant back in the day), or is everyone as surprised by this as I am.

I was personally aware of the 9th diploma, but the interesting thing is it is one of the original diplomas before Edmund re-designed the upper division diplomas and moved to an 11x17 format over the 8.5x11 original and lower division diplomas. To my knowledge, Mr. Parker only gave Elvis and 8th in the larger format. He had done the same with people like Nick Cerio by issuing them only the small diploma. It was his practice to do this and separate some promotions from others once the larger diplomas were created.

Sure, and I was not aiming my comments at you, or anyone specific, for that matter. Just an observation. There have been plenty of discussions about bad or undeserving promotions, things clearly done for the sake of the business. One cannot excuse it in some cases and not in others. It could even include cases of self-promotion. It's an easy claim to say it was for the sake of the business.

personally, I'm glad to be in a school where belt promotions just are not done.

I didn't think you were, I saw it as a philosophical argument.

So, I find it interesting that there has been decades of debate on whether Elvis was a legitimate 8th degree, and now we have a diploma showing he was a 9th, and Huk Planas never mentioned it.

Elvis wasn't the only one with 9th on a small diploma, and Mr. Parker wasn't in the habit of sharing what and whom he was doing with promotions. It wasn't anyone's business. I saw many simply because I happen to be there. often saw diplomas for people I never heard of.

The certificate is signed only by Mr. & Mrs. Parker. Dave Hebler's signature is a stamp. I do not doubt the authenticity of the document, because I had seen it before. My only question is how they came into possession of it.

    I think you're seeing Mr. Hebler's signature.

Huk did say he used to carry around blank certificates by the briefcase full ... by blank, he said not made out to the person whose name would eventually be promoted, but with the printed signatures.
