Default Mr. Planas Seminar .... September 10, 2005

I am off to a seminar with Mr. Planas at Hudson Kenpo in New Hampshire. I'll post a summary tomorrow.

Also will be doing a private lesson with Mr. Planas after the seminar. Woo-Hoo!

Mr. Planas' seminar yesterday, as usual, worked the brain more than the body. He put out a lot of great information.

There were, perhaps, 25 attendees, ranging from purple belt through several degrees of black.

Mr. Planas did a pretty thorough review of some of the 'Crane Family' techniques; Leaping Crane, Hugging Pendulum, Circling the Horizon, and a bit of Gathering Clouds.

He cleaned up and corrected many of the minor things that many of us were doing less than effectively; timing, targets, weapons.

A pretty good seminar. At the end of class, Mr. Planas kicked Mr. Hogan.

My private was the third time Mr. Planas and I worked our way through Form 4. We worked, on many timing items.

We worked carefully on the Thundering Hammers and its transition into Unwinding Pendulum. We worked Prance of the Tiger carefully, and its transition into Shield and Mace.

    A very good day.

    Awesome.
Clear mind, clear movement. Mastery of the Arts is mastery over the Self. That in this moment, this motion, the thoughts, memories, impulses and passions that cloud the mind must yield to the clarity of purpose, and purity of motion.

A year has gone by since this post.

Mr. Planas was back in town today. Actually, he spent several days fishing with my instructor for Salmon in New York. Then we got to Kenpo.

I had private lesson with Mr. Planas today. We worked my least favorite techniques - the Ram techniques. I think I have a better understanding of these self-defense techniques. Now I just need to get my body to move the correct way. Maybe.

We had a seminar with a pretty good turnout.

We worked hard on 'BLOCKS'. We worked HARD on blocks. Everybody in attendance left with some bruises today. We started with the kick in Thrusting Salute - get the minor block, get the major block and get the stance right, over and over and over and over. If your shin wasn't sore, you weren't doing it right.

You job was to put your foot on the other guys' belt knot. His job was to ensure you could not put your foot on his belt knot.

We had a few jammed fingers.

We worked similarly on Five Swords, through several variations.

A fun class. A great opportunity.
