Maui Kenpo Dojo

Greetings:

Just returned from a vacation on the island of Maui. Wanted to check out the Maui Kenpo Dojo, as I had previously seen pictures of, and heard of this school through the Planas lineage websites. Unfortunately when I stopped by, it appears that the school is no longer open for business. The doors were locked and there didn't appear to be anything inside the dojo, no furniture, posters, information, nada. Looked completely abandoned.

Does anyone know what happened to this school?

Unfortunately the school was poorly managed and the head instructor suffered from an over inflated ego which ultimately was his demise. The dojo was turned over to some twenty something kid who tried to make it into a MMA school which failed miserably, again, due to a huge ego trip. Being a small island, word spread quickly that the person in charge was in love with himself and 99.9% of the students left. The blackbelts left. I am taking lessons from one of the former Maui Kenpo guys who is extrememly talented and very humble. I wish I could give you more but I wasn't around during all the turmoil. There is no more Maui Kenpo dojo. Hope this helps.

If you go to Lahaina, I recommend Pacific Divers Maui, I believe the street address is 150 Dickenson St. I know the owner, Piper Nascarella, she is great. I also have a small line of sterling silver jewelry on sale in her shop. Sharks, sea turtles, whales, dolphins and such. Go check it out. Great place. Have fun!

Not that I have nearly the breadth of experience as Mr. Hale, but, depending on time, I might be interested in getting together with some Maui guys while I am there... if yer game?

Oh bloddy hell. And he was one of the folks I wanted to meet if I ever make it out to that other coast this country is rumored to have.

Sigh. What a terrible loss to American Kenpo.
