    Default New Association

With Fank Trejo starting his new association, what is the expected response to be. Will this new association be one of the primary associations in the next couple of years. We all know that Frank Trejo has the knowledge to head up an organization, but is there enough kenpo practioners that are not under some other banner that will coming under Mr. Trejo umbrella. The times that I have been fortunate enough to attend an event that Mr. Trejo was teaching at I always came away with a sense of wonderment.

My favorite seminar with Mr. Trejo was at Jeff Blay's camp where he did some very cool escrima work. The only sparring seminar I attended was with Dennis Tosten.

I remember that Seminar well Rob. It's where I first met you in person. Trejo was planning on doing some "Sticky hands" work that day, but one of the other instructors beat him to the punch so to speak. So, he planned out his stick seminar about ten minutes before he was supposed to teach, and showed us some stick fighting stuff that was awesome.

The material he taught in that class just meshed so well with everything else that was taught that weekend, and to pull it off on the fly like that is really amazing. It was a great weekend, lots of good Kenpo, lots of good food, some cold beer, and great commraderie.

Mr. Trejo dropped out of the WKKA and nobody will tell me why. Does anybody have any info on that?

When I was a member of the WKKA, Joe Palanzo was president, Huk Planas was vice-president, and Frank Trejo was the other key guy behind its formation. The seminars and camps, obviously, were awesome.

Before long, both Huk and Frank left. Dennis Nackord took over as vice-president when I was there as well. I loved his sparring seminars. He's also a great guy. Before long, Dennis left and was no longer vice-president. I can't remember who was the next vice-president but most recently, it was Steve Arsenault, whom I like very much. I just heard that Steve has left the WKKA as well, but I am not sure why.

I have nothing but great things to say about Mr. Palanzo. He is a wonderful guy to be around, and is a great teacher. However, I chose to leave the WKKA for big-time political reasons in 1997, and I will leave it at that.

Why do I think there was a mullet involved in that decision.

    Ya killin' me Rob, LOL.

BTW - it's too bad there's so much distance between us. It would be great if we could hook up more regularly.
