    Default Kenpo Ohana in CA

Just wanted to take a few minutes to wish Dr. Crouch and the distinguished instructors good luck with this weekends events.

I'm sure people are packing bags and getting ready to travel. To you, safe travels.

Dr. Crouch, I truly hope that the effort you have put forth is well rewarded. The organizations you are trying to support need all the help they can get. I wish that I could be there to "share the love" during all of the seminars.

    Salute and deep respects.

I wish you could be here, too! Freakin' crazy tying to get everything done and all the bases covered in time. It wouldn't be possible if not for the contributions from everyone who's helped out.

For any who don't know, Mr. Billings is the maker of very nice hand-crafted hardwood training knives; he has graciously donated a pair, plus, to the silent auction for the event. The quality on these things is awesome. I'm thinking...need to get some photo's so I can post them here for all to see. The way he crafts them leaves them "open grain", so they can be easily made like new after minor training scratches, unlike those closed in a polyurethane finish.

They fit the hand beautifully, and solve a very unique problem for me: I usuallly train to fight with fixed-blade Bowies, about a foot long...but only carry a tactical folder...magically about the length in blade as these trainers. Very nice addition to any martial artists collection. And he crafts them in pairs, so you can either partner train patterns and defenses in kali or silat, or if you're silly you can do the goofy kenpo knife long form thing.

    Thank you, Brad! Outstanding work!

I guess I know what I'll be bidding on!

I'll be taking lots of pictures and will put up a slideshow of the event afterward.

It's going to be a great event, Dr. D. No worries.

It's a bunch of people doing kenpo. How can that be wrong?

Anyone on here who is going to the Ohana, make sure you find me and say hello.

I'll be easier to pick out since I'll be one of the few women there.

Let me know you're from KT so we can say hello and get our picture together.

I've handled some of Brad's knives and they are exceptionally nice.

IMHO, maybe too nice to train with LOL!!!! Brad you should make display stands for them

There is no one else I would get my trainers from.

Brad you should have a pick or 2 of the ones you sent me.
I am really fond of the Ebony and Blood Wood set.

He will also design them to fit your personal hand and application.

I dont know what design you sent to Dr. Dave but I do hope it was my profile.

Dave you rock sir. Congrats on you great efforts.

    Mr. Marshall,

Unfortunately, I didn't have any of "The Marshall Plan" ready. I sent him 2 sets of the "Hidden Strike" (the ones I had at the camp).

I will see if I can put some pics of them up.

    Dr. Dave and All,

Here are a couple of pics of the knives in question.... The top pic shows the ones made from Bloodwood (blade/tang) and Rosewood. The bottom set is made of Mahogany.

    Salute,

For those of us in kenpo limbo and of limited funds, is there any plan to film some of the seminars and offer them for sale to help profit the charities?

I would LOVE to be there and take part, but it can't happen at this time. But, I would still love to see what was instructed (would love to meet people as well).

I would also be very interested. I have no problem with paying for a vid and making a donation to the charities, but making it out to the west coast won't be something I can do for a little while.

That's the plan. Thanks in large part to the economic dump, we have had a horrid turnout for financial contributions from local business, which was supposed to be the primary source of income for this thing. We even lowered the amounts for the tier levels, sweetened the pot with offerings of our own (people within the school offering chunks of the services they provide professionally in "thanks" for contributions), and still the feeling of fishing in an empty bucket.

So, rather than accept defeat around a couple dozen big chunks of change, we're hoping to create a dvd consisting of about 5 minutes from each presenter, compiling them, and having anything above the costs of making the things go into the kitty to benefit the charities. Helps create an ongoing stream. Might be more of a trickle, but when you see the difference even trickles can make in individual lives touched by this, ... after a brief tour of the little primary school set up next to the shelter, where the kids of women on the run from the men who beat them go for education while Mom's on the DL, something in the back of my pea-little brain popped, "you cannot see this, and not do something about it".

Like I said...only a trickle. But with fingers crossed...
Clear mind, clear movement. Mastery of the Arts is mastery over the Self. That in this moment, this motion, the thoughts, memories, impulses and passions that cloud the mind must yield to the clarity of purpose, and purity of motion.

Hugely cool time had by all.

I got to hang out with all sorts of great people, many of whom I know from online. I'll have the slideshow put together in no time.

To get a copy of the whole thing, you'd have to order the commemorative dvd as well, but I'll put up the pix to see on my website.
