Sorry to revive a long dead thread, especially as a first post but -
While I'm sure it was meant as a joke, ya can't put a whole section of people under enhanced scrutiny just because a disproportionate number of people from that group commit a certain crime. Take race for example. Black people make up 13% of the U.S. population and commit 52% of the murder in the U.S. It would still be an out right attack on liberty, and counter to our nation's ideals, to suggest there should be different weapon laws for particular races. Likewise - Muslims (I fall into that group) commit roughly 6% of the terror attacks in this country while only making up 2% of the population. So should I (a guy who has devoted most of his life to the criminal justice field) be a suspect? Making observations is good. Making selective rules based on them is a VERY slippery slope.
That said - When I was working traffic, it did seem like A LOT of drivers signed the citation I issued with their LEFT HAND. An observation I made LONG before ever seeing this thread.
