Default Current/Prior Military or Law Enforcement

I was curious to how many of you have served or are currently serving in the military or are in law enforcement.

Did you get into Martial Arts because of it?

I've always loved MA so serving in the Armed Forces didn't sway me either way. LOL But I did a stint in the U.S. Air Force as a Combat Security Specialist between 88 and 92.

Had nothing to do with getting into martial arts, but that was a fun four years.

    Never served.

Registered with Selective Service of course. Since aged out but would still go if needed.

Does JROTC count? That was in high school.

I have been thinking about getting into law enforcement but I have a few things that are holding me back. One of the things holding me back, being that I will be the new guy I might end up with the deep night shift. That would not give me much time to spend with my kids. And it would kill my ability to continue in Kenpo classes. The other thing I was told by a recruiter was that I have to be on the street for five years before I could transfer to a SWAT unit.

Career US Air Force: 1/2 enlisted, 1/2 officer.

In MA before entering, had the pleasure of learning from and working out with some of the best and classiest martial artists around during my time in the military, and you won't recognize any of the names.

    U.S. Army 1999 to Present

Currently I am on Recruiting Duty, although I think of it as Purgatory. 1/3 of the way to go then its back to the real Army. I normaly work in Intel, although I started of as a Scout.

I was a martial artist long before the Army as I started in 1983 but I often wonder if my interest in me indirectly lead me to this lifestyle. There is a tradition of service in my family but I was teaching high school and stuggling to pay off my loans. I fell in love with the lifestyle and now I "bleed green" as we say.

I forgot to answer the main question. I got involved in martial arts before joining military or working in law enforcement, but I got back into them because of them.
