    I don't like it.
The rear leg and foot irritate me, and the strikes have very little power or focus.

I was so busy weeping over the attach, and the strikes, that I did not notice the feet. Not one forward bow in the clip, is there? I think I spotted one wide kneel, but most of them looked like Bella Lagosi (e.g. Mummy Feet).

These people are getting taken advantage of by someone. Someone who truly doesn't care or understand about body mechanics. Eventually, when the **** hits the fan, none of these people will be able to pull off Parting Wings. This is a black belt grading, huh?

Wow. It takes a lot of guts to post this as any kind of "test," let alone a Back belt test, OR the quality of Kenpo has degenerated so badly this is what they think is "normal" and decent. A look at the vast majority of videos on line suggests this represents the status quo. Mr. Parker must be spinning. Pathetic is the only word I can think of.

So much wrong. It may be easier to ask what they did right. Nothing. Orange belt level at best.

ORANGE? When did you get so generous? Not a one of these guys could wear a white belt on my floor. But then, I'm crazy and my expectations are rather high.

I have white belts that are better than this. They wouldn't even pass yellow :-(

If anyone wanted proof that the 'red book' and technique outlines are exactly that (outlines), then this is it.

Definitely not 5.0. Actually, they have a loose affiliation with the IKKA (as was) and Jersey (channel islands) connections.

These guys have their club in Exeter (UK) - the same city where my instructor is based. The sad thing is, they have never once walked through our door despite it being open to everyone. Politics is everywhere in kenpo. They are nice guys though - don't get me wrong. A friendly bunch.

Doc - one of the instructors of this group were at our summer camp this year. At least thats a step in the right direction, for years they would refuse to come along. A very insular group that are not yet ready to leave their comfort zone. Its a very difficult situation - the underlying problem is that they don't realise how bad they are. 'unconsciously incompetent' would be a good description I guess.

    Here's their youtube channel

Sad thing is, I've seen worse /sigh

Flaming-fist, if you are reading these comments by any chance (I suspect not) - then you are very welcome to come to classes - Tuesday + Friday nights, 6.45pm - 10pm

I'm pretty sure if you tried to tell them how they could improve, they'd either get offended, or just give you a blank stare and continue doing what they're doing. I'd like to be wrong.

On reflection I should have kept quiet. I don't want to offend anyone - but what else can be said? The clip we are watching is just really bad. I've seen them do better, so have no idea why they put that particular clip online.

What we see in the clip is representative of much of kenpo, there is nothing unusual there. The stuff we see on youtube is only scratching the surface of what is out there. Sadly, it is the future of kenpo-karate - the inevitable result of passing on a loose framework of technique outlines and pseudo-scientific kenpo 'terminology'.

kenpo's the best m.a. though, right?

No, "kenpo" is the best "idea." It still has to be taught, and executed by the knowledgeable, and skillful. And that my friend is when the fight started.

I don't have very many adult students @ present time. Regardless of that fact, I would much rather have a smaller amount of students than have a bunch that look like the video above.
The people in the video have disengaged the upper & lower bodies. Neutral, forward, neutral is not shown as a basic. It costs the woman in the video precious power she will need to stop an incoming attack. I actually didn't see any of them in a neutral bow stance. Feet were splayed in all different directions. Even from my youngest student to my oldest. If I don't see a proper neutral bow stance, I'll put my hands on their shoulders to give a push. If they start to fall over, they'll get back in front of me & adjust their feet immediately. They hate looking down the line & having the other students see their stance tested. Normally that straightens everyone up. Those shown in the video need someone to give them the push to test the stance.

Yes, sir. I thought the same. My earlier post was not directed at Doc or his comments. I was remarking on the video itself. Sorry for the confusion. I apologize if my comment sounded disrespectful to Mr. Chapel or anyone else.
