Default October 2013 TOM - Bow of Complusion

Bow of Compulsion (Front- Wrist Lock; Against Attacker's Chest)
(An attacker at 12 o'clock pins your right hand against their chest.)

    1. Put your left hand on top of your attacker's pin. Step to 12 o'clock with your right foot into a right neutral bow. Simultaneously with this step collapse your right arm into a right downward elbow to your attacker's solar plexus or possibly groin.

    2. With your left hand still in a diagonal guard position, sink into a right wide kneel stance as you rake down your attacker's body through your attacker's groin.

    3. Immediately reverse your motion and execute a right reverse hand sword to your attacker's groin.

    4. Execute a right back fist to your attacker's left knee.

    5. Following a figure-8 pattern, execute a right punch to your attacker's right knee.

    6. Cross out towards 7:30.
Be careful what you say, some may take it the wrong way.

We attempt to strike with that elbow in an upward direction; the elbow travelling a circle around the hand. It won't ever actually strike on the upside of the circle, but with that idea in mind, the force will be going in the correct direction.

I would suggest keeping your fore-arm vertical so that you don't have to re-position to pull down, and or seeking a point of reference.

I suggest it doesn't sir. It is an interesting "idea" to start the process, but taken literally as a technique application it is seriously flawed on multiple levels. It was suggested by an old judo move that was always questionable. Let's start as I always do with the Psychology of Confrontation.

How and why does your hand get pinned?
What is the other party attempting to do?
    Which one is the attacker?
What is the likelihood of this happening in the real world? (as opposed to the Martial Fantasy League)

Actually, I don't like the tech or the attack either, but that vertical elbow to the ribs is a great insert.

thought i replied, but i guess not. all the attacker has to do is secure your elbow and walk/move/fall forward and you wont be thinking of doing the rest of the technique.

Then you hit to low, which is another problem with the tech as written.

what i meant was, secures it under the elbow, essentially turning your wrist into a fulcrum. it'll be hard to make any forward movement since it would be very compelling to drive a person back.

This "figure-8" movement, as well as the one in Hooking Wings, and some other right-hand-doing -all-the-work examples make me ask
Why the hell don't you throw a left punch or strike of some kind, somewhere in there, instead of all one-handed stuff?

Maybe it's from my original training or the little time I spent boxing/kickboxing, but it seems ....weird not to alternate...:0

Ok I must have learned some crazy Skip version of Hooking Wings but there was only a figure eight if you were in a chase with him rapidly backing up. The idea, as I understand, is that the first shot to the the jaw and through should knock him out, leave him in place for a quick reversal of motion with your fist, and elbow, which happens in an instant, with no time to slip a shot in between.

Pretty sure you could land a straight or crossing left faster than you can reverse the motion of that right.

So you are either saying you routinely land a second shot before reversing the motion of the other hand, or I didn't write that clearly. Now, out in front of you drop your fist and bring it back to your ear as fast as you can. That's it, thats the motion.

In both techniques, the left hand is doing something. Were it not, a left punch or strike of some kind, somewhere in there, could probably happen.
