Default Speakman is teaching haka now?

There is a youtube video of Speakman's 2016 belt test in Las Vegas which is pretty cool with taiko drums welcoming the students.

Although this year it seems like he has taken it a step further and now they are doing a haka as well.

A little too much? What are your thoughts?

I have mixed feelings. On one hand, it’s not my cup of tea and if it was a requirement for training with his group, that alone would send me elsewhere. Something about it feels like a real stretch to find relevance in this context.

on the other hand, sharing culture is a good thing in this modern age. You don’t need to be Japanese to learn Taiko and you don’t need to be Chinese to learn Lion Dance.

So cliched now in sports. I have seen several videos of rugby teams doing this. The Univ. of Hawaii used to do it before their football games, about the only one that seemed to fit.

Thought it might be some traditional Okinawan ritual.

example of sports haka, becoming more and more common in soccer/rugby (at least that is where I have seen it the most)
"For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer."
