How long have you studied IKCA Kenpo?

Just wondering how long some of you have been in IKCA Kenpo.

I Got my introduction to the system in Spring '01 when I first ordered the tapes (at that point I was already a Nidan in Nahate Goju), and I watched the whole system several times from white (orange, actually) to black. I also practicing what I was watching on and off.

I didn't start actually testing and getting feedback until early '05.

So I have either been studying the IKCA material for six years or three...but I'm still only a blue belt - I hope to get a green test in before spring!

Good luck on your green belt test! I started the IKCA program last year (August 06). There is a school close to my house that teaches Kenpo and they use the IKCA program.

I found the IKCA in 2002. Passed all tests with 98% or higher and my previous 3rd Dan ranking from another style was acknowledged and I was promoted to 3rd Black, IKCA Kenpo in 2006.

I've been studying their curriculum for about 2 years now. If you can make it, I highly reccomend going to the Kenpo in the Carolina's seminar in April.

That seminar is the one hosted by Parsons? I'd like to go. I sent him an email asking about it. Hopefully I'll hear back from him.

I started the program in 2000 or 2001, I earned my Black belt in 2003, then had a bit of seperation from the Martial Arts for a while, but got my fire re-sparked early this year. Now I'm back and working on tightening up my skills again and plan to test for my 2nd sometime this year.

I have studied for about ten or eleven months if I take off the two months I was gone for wrestling season. I am a Purple belt hoping to test for my Blue belt very soon.

I began my journey with IKCA in 1994 when I read their ad in Blackbelt magazine. I ordered their free preview video and was immediately sold on the program. I was fortunate enough to attend their Amite, LA seminars from 1996-2004 and the Long Beach seminars four times from the x-1 in 1999 (I think) and several more after that. Being a part of the IKCA has been one of the greatest decisions I've ever made. It has allowed me to meet and become close to some of the greatest people. I firmly believe in their interpretation of the Art and in the effectiveness of their video testing program.

I began my training with the IKCA in 1995. Mr. Sullivan promoted me to 1st dan in 1998 and 2nd dan in 2002. I began teaching the IKCA Chinese Kenpo system in 1998 and continued until 2004 with that system. During those years, I trained over 300 students in the IKCA system. I was a stickler for quality vs quantity (sound familiar?), so we only had two students that were promoted to black belt during that time. One was promoted to brown, and one to green. All others were blue and below.

Since this was the first system of kenpo that I trained in, I still have a spot in my heart for Mr. Sullivan, the system he and Mr. LeRoux created, and for what Mr. Sullivan meant to Mr. Parker. He was truly the senior most 7th dan under Mr. Parker at the time of SGM Parker's passing and is still one of the few living legends in kenpo today.
