The Importance Of Kata
By MJS - Thu, 13 Dec 2007 02:07:23 GMT
====================
How much emphasis does your school put on kata? How in depth do you get with the various applications of kata?
For myself, I think its an important piece of the puzzle. While kata is not the end all be all, I do think that it has its place. Stances, offensive/defensive movements, moving while attacking, are just a few things that they touch on.
Looking forward to your replies!

We place a great deal of importance in Kata. In all the higher Kenpo Katas you are practicing your techniques as well as perfecting power and stances.
We even have a second 2 man form created By Grandmaster Joe Dimmick that is at second Brown. The 2 man Katas really teach you the Bunkai side of your Kata and teach you to react.

For the beginner, they teach coordination, gross motor skills, balance, combinations, manuvering,....the list goes on and on. They are invaluable in the study of martial arts. Even boxers shadow box...right?

Kata's are a very important component to any martial art, they contain the all of the system's offensive and defensive movements.
